Root the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet
Lenovo is famous for business-oriented computing devices. The ThinkPad line of laptops is a good example of this. ThinkPad products, known for superior quality, are dependable, tough, and durable. These are computing devices that don’t care much about looks but are more focused on productivity and performance.
And, to enter into the next era of mobile computing, Lenovo is now into tablets. One of the first tablets it released was the ThinkPad Tablet, an Android device that has carried over the superior build of a ThinkPad laptop.
This tough-looking tablet is not your average 10-inch tablet. It is bigger and heavier, which can make you think of it as one sloppy, heavy-weight tablet. You are wrong if you think that way though. With its 1 GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor and 1 GB of RAM, this device is a nasty giant.
To make things better with the ThinkPad Tablet, Lenovo packaged it with Android 3.1 Honeycomb. This ensures you that everything in the device is tablet-optimized.
Much as we’d like to wish that the ThinkPad Tablet came pre-rooted, the sad truth is that it isn’t. The good thing, though, is that we have the steps to root the ThinkPad Tablet. Just continue reading and check out the simple steps below.
Just like in any other rooting endeavors that you’ve been through, we warn you that this process will void the warranty of the device. So, proceed at your own risk.
Requirements
- Micro USB to USB cable for connecting the tablet to the computer
- Windows PC running either Windows Vista or Windows 7
- Internet connection for downloading the necessary files to root the tablet
- Android SDK with ADB installed on your PC
- Ffully charged Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet
Instructions
- Download the one-click rooting package for the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet. Get it here.
- Extract the contents of the rooting package into a folder on your computer.
- Connect the tablet to your PC via the USB cable. Make sure it is unlocked so it can be properly recognized by your PC.
- Open the folder where you extracted the rooting files to.
- Among the files will be a file called “run.bat” (or, if your desktop is configured to hide filename extensions, it will be simply shown as “run”).
- Double-click on “run.bat” to run the script and start rooting.
- Carefully follow the prompts and instructions that appear on your computer. Your tablet’s screen will also show some signs of activity. You can safely ignore those.
- After following all the prompts, your ThinkPad Tablet should now be rooted.
Things are really getting easier these days. That was a very quick process. You did not even sweat on that, did you?
And, now that your Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet is already rooted, you can have more fun with it, at least for those of you who like to tinker with your gadgets. What will be your next stop? Flash CyanogenMod, maybe?
