Sony slashes $100 off Sony Tablet S, 20 percent off accessories
Sony has slashed $100 off the price of the Sony Tablet S just days after the holiday season. New Years shoppers can now pick up a 16GB model for $399 and a 32GB unit for $499, the same price as an entry-level 16GB Apple iPad 2.
The price drops are now being reflected in Sony’s online store and marked as instant savings instead of annoying mail-in rebates. As Digital Trends notes, now that the holidays are behind us, Sony is likely looking to offload some excess inventory and there’s no better way to do so than to cut prices. The site even references a Newegg bundle with the 16GB tablet and a 1TB GoFlex drive selling for $449.99 but I had no such luck finding that promotion.
The Sony Tablet S includes a 9.4-inch (1280 x 800) screen, a 0.3MP front-facing camera, a 5MP shooter on the rear and is powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 2 SoC. Wireless / networking connectivity is provided through Wi-Fi and Bluetooth version 2.1+ EDR and the device includes an IR port for remote control function with Sony’s line of Bravia televisions as well as other devices supporting the Digital Living Network Alliance standards. Battery life is listed at up to eight hours from the 5000mAh Li-Ion battery.
In addition to the lowered price on the tablet, Sony is offering 20 percent off multiple accessories for the tablet as well. This sale runs through January 14 and includes discounts on over a dozen items through Sony’s online store.
